How do I get a free copy of my credit report in Ontario?

Credit bureaus sell information, but by law you are entitled to obtain your own credit report for free. There are two main Credit Bureaus in Canada. They are as follows:

Equifax Canada – www.consumer.equifax.ca/home/en_ca
TransUnion – www.transunion.ca/ca/personal/creditreport/consumerdisclosure/mail_en.page

How do I know the information on my credit report is accurate?

It is important that we check our credit reports on a regular basis to ensure the information is correct. There may be errors contained therein, however, we won’t know of these errors unless we check ourselves.

How do I correct an error on my credit report?

The Credit Bureaus are pleased to make any necessary corrections provided you forward proof of the error. For example if a debt is showing as still outstanding but you have paid it then all you have to do is provide a letter from the creditor confirming the debt was paid to the Credit Bureau.
